WHAT IS HUMAN TRAFFICKING?
"Trafficking is recruitment, transportation, transfer or harboring, or receipt of any person for any purpose or in any form, including the recruitment, transportation, transfer or harboring, or receipt of any person by the threat or use of force or by abduction, fraud, deception, coercion or abuse of power for the purposes of slavery, forced labor (including bonded labor or debt bondage) and servitude".
- UN Definition of Human Trafficking
Unfortunately, Dubai has become a target where traffickers from all over the world try to conduct their illegal and inhumane activities. Because of Dubai’s central location in the world, violators of human rights have found ways to bring their victims into the country and exploit them. This way people from all over the world are trafficked into situations of slavery, forced prostitution, abusive employers and other exploitive circumstances. Sadly, labor laws in Dubai currently protects the employer more than the employee, and traffickers, abusive employers and facilitators of prostitution (pimps) are not always brought to justice, while the victims of trafficking have great difficulty in finding a legal way out of their unbearable circumstances.
